No. Medical weight loss and health coaching are generally not covered by most insurance plans. When doctors accept insurance for weight loss, they often cannot provide the comprehensive care needed due to time constraints. Patients typically receive a prescription with minimal information, which can lead to ineffective treatment and severe side effects.

Insurance-based programs usually require patients to see multiple specialists for different aspects of their care, such as a dietitian for nutrition advice and a therapist for stress management. This can be both time-consuming and costly.

At FitFocus MD, we offer a comprehensive, all-inclusive program where all your needs are met by Dr. Kinjal Gadhiya. Our clinic serves as a one-stop shop for weight loss and maintenance, ensuring you receive personalized and detailed care. Dr. Gadhiya takes the time to ensure you fully understand your treatment plan. Your initial visit lasts about an hour, with follow-up appointments of 30 minutes every 4 weeks. Our approach ensures that your visits are thorough, and you won’t experience long wait times. We prioritize your time and your health.

An obesity medicine physician specializes in treating patients with obesity, overweight conditions, and related disorders. They focus on identifying the original causes of weight gain and developing a comprehensive treatment plan that includes lifestyle modifications and, if necessary, medications. These physicians undergo additional training to become board-certified, ensuring expert, individualized care rather than a generic treatment plan. While primary care doctors can prescribe weight loss medications, they may not have the specialized training or experience that an obesity medicine physician possesses. Just as a cardiologist is an expert in heart health, an obesity medicine physician is a specialist in weight management.

Although Dr. Kinjal Gadhiya is trained in both Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, her primary focus is on weight loss. You will need to maintain a primary care physician for your other healthcare needs. Dr. Gadhiya will coordinate with your primary care doctor throughout your weight loss program to ensure comprehensive care.

BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure used to estimate a person’s body fat levels based on their weight and height. It’s calculated by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters.

The resulting number is used to classify individuals into categories:

Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
Normal weight: BMI 18.5 to 24.9
Overweight: BMI 25 to 29.9
Obesity: BMI 30 or higher

In order to qualify for treatment with prescription weight loss medications, patients must have a BMI of 30 or above, which is classified as obesity. It may also be considered for those with a BMI of 27 or above if they have at least one weight-related health condition, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Patients who have a BMI between 27-30 will be required to complete labs before their appointment.
